2010 HGTV Green Home tour - Laundry, Recycling, and Mud Room

UPDATE 11/21/2010:  Welcome visitors from Kelly's Korner Show Us Your Life Bathrooms week!  I thought it'd be fun to share more from our HGTV home tour in Cape Cod in May because I loved, loved LOVED this room.  It's my favorite in the whole HGTV Green Home!!  I hope find as much inspiration in this room as I do!

Today we're going to my favorite room in the HGTV Green Home...the laundry room!  If you'd like to see more of this house, you're welcome to check out our mini road trip, exterior, kitchen, living room & dining room, master bedroom suitekids bedroom suite, sitting room & watch tower too.  Next time we'll share lots of photos and details about art work displayed through out the home.

The Laundry, Recycling, and Mud Room is located on the first floor down the hall from the half bath next to the garage entrance. If my laundry room looked like this, I imagine that I'd magically enjoy doing load after dog hair covered load while I do crafts and cut fresh flowers at the island.

I love how the vibrant red LG Energy Star-rated, front-load washer and large-capacity dryer pop against the gray beadboard cabinets and lighter gray walls in here.  The owl giclee prints are from Ballard Designs.
I love the over sized farmer's sinkSmoky Ash CaesarStone counter top, and unique faucet.  I didn't get a great photo of the faucet but you can pull it out and/or down and it'll hold its position so you can use both your hands.
Wire and canvas laundry hampers are to the left of the island and come complete with staged laundry.

The recycling center has eight Hancock baskets from New Hampshire.  Canvas totes are ready for trips to the grocery store.  The recycling area is made from reclaimed, antique heart pine.  The watering can is available from Pottery Barn.
The door to the right of the recycling center is a small coat/utility closet.  I wonder if this laundry is also included in the winner's prize package?  The light inside the closet automatically turns on and off as the door swings.
Hmm, the inside of this closet doesn't seem like a good spot to end the tour today.  Most of my photos of this room came out too dark.  Let's see what I can find... Oh!  I also really liked the light fixture in here and that the darker gray cabinets go all the way up to the lighter gray ceiling.
Sherwin Williams paint colors: Cityscape (cabinets), Agreeable Gray (walls and ceiling)

Next time we'll appeciate the artwork displayed through out the home.  There's even some in the tiny half bath off the first floor hall way.  I love this mirror and the strong color in this glorified closet powder room that continues onto the ceiling too.

Thanks for stopping by!

Show Us Your Life - Favorite Things

Kelly's Korner hosts a weekly Show Us Your Life series.  This week's topic is Show Us Your Favorite Things.

Here we go...

Relaxing with Jake, Max, and Brewster
Did you spot Max curled up behind Bru?

Sunshine!  This is Pine Point; a dog friendly beach.

Being spontaneous and seeing where life leads us.

The ocean anytime of year.

Road trips and exploring new places

Music, satellite radio, Free Beer & Hot Wings morning showconcerts

Random vacation days and having plenty of time to sew, craft, cook, explore, read, or just do absolutely nothing.

Regional foods...fresh seafood, blueberries, Humpty Dumpty BBQ chips, wicked whoopie pies, Sea Dogs biscuits, and watching someone that hasn't seen a red hot dog before react to it.  Ha!

Playing board games with family and friends
Deluxe Turntable Scrabble
Apples to Apples Party Box - The Game of Hilarious Comparisons
Cranium Family Edition

Catching up with old friends and picking up right where we left off.

Netflix!  Now I'm streaming it through our Wii and can watch while I craft.  Breaking up with our VCR a few years ago and the convenience of having a DVR now (thanks, Jason!).

Doing simple things that make other people smile

Fresh bed linens (aka dog hair free!)

The satisfaction of crossing anything off on my always expanding to-do list.

Uncontrollable laughter

These appliances...
Euro-Pro GI468 Rapido Electronic Iron with Stainless-Steel Soleplate
Keurig B40 Elite Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System
Euro-Pro Shark S3501 Deluxe Steam Pocket Mop

Taking the Downeaster to Boston.

People watching during sports. Jake's proud when I say something relevant about Boston sports.

Bright pink pedicures and fun Maine Isle flip flops from LL Bean.

The first hints of spring after a long, cold winter.

Trying new things.  I went to my first cricket match on Saturday.  When we travel we try places we don't have here like Charlie's Cupcakes in Plymouth, MA.
Using blogging as my license to take all sorts of random photos that I would've shied away from taking before.

Taking time to think about and appreciate the little things in life.

2010 HGTV Green Home tour - Sitting Room and Watch Tower

Today we'll be hanging out in the cozy sitting room and watch tower at the HGTV Green Home! You are welcome to check out our mini road trip, exterior, kitchen, living room & dining room, master bedroom suite, and kids bedroom suite too. We'll share lots of photos and details in our future posts about the laundry room (my favorite room!) and the art work.

The sitting room is located on the second floor in a nook outside the master bedroom suite.  I love love love this shade of blue with the crisp white, pops of red, and the baskets.
Even the ceiling is blue!  I like the simplicity and function of the end table from Wisteria; the table top height can be adjusted by spinning it.  I didn't get a good photo of the end table so I'm including one from their website.
Here's a closer look at the coffee table.  One of the tour guides told us this was a laundry basket.
I love this mirror.
Looking down into the sitting room from the landing above.  The carpet used in the master bedroom is also used in this room.  The simple track lighting continues the nautical feel.
The left most door belongs to the master bedroom and the right door is the kids bedroom.

Let's head up to the watch tower! We'll pass a huge rectangular grapevine wreath on the way.
This space has a loft feel and includes more items from West Elm: Sawhorse table, chair, and Branch side table.
The floor space is only about 6 feet wide but it fits this firefly covered chaise perfectly.  This area rug is by Shaw too.  The floor lamp is paper-mache.
We signed the guest book before heading down to see the rest of the house again.
Looking up at the blue ceiling, cube light fixture, and smoke detector.  Safety first!
Looking downstairs from the watch tower.
Sherwin Williams paint: Bracing Blue (sitting room walls and ceiling), Extra White (watch tower walls), Stream (watch tower ceiling), Sable (watch tower table).  Shaw carpet: Majestic (sitting room)

Next time we'll tour the laundry room...my favorite!
Thanks for stopping by!
