Keeping It Simple

Today I'm making my blog crafting debut!  I'm participating in The Iron Crafter Challenge #1 - Secret Ingredient Recycled Cans on Fireflies and Jellybeans.  In case you live under a rock (hey I've been there!), this is a take on Food Network's Iron Chef America.  Go big or go home, right?

I had some grand ideas but decided to keep it simple and practical.  Let's make a custom gift tag for Famous Joe's (our favorite brother-in-law) belated birthday gift using a soup can lid!

Step 1: Remove the lid from a can (this one is for you, MJ).  Then, trim any ragged pieces with the snips and sand all edges until smooth.
Step 2:  Make a hole in the lid.  You can punch a hole with a hammer and nail pretty easily.  I used a drill because I'm just cool like that.  If you drill it, Jake recommends clamping it in place with some scrap wood underneath (flooring in our case).
That's me!  The woman behind the drill.
Step 3: Spray paint in a well ventilated area.
Oops! How'd those Ball jar lids get in there?  I liked my gift tag idea so much that I decided to make a whole army of them and we had the Ball lids lying around.  Shiny!
Step 4: Decorate it and you are done!

Famous Joe is a dog lover too.  :)

The extra cute packaging will make up for Famous Joe's gift being belated, right?

Thanks for stopping by!
